Random Thoughts In Case You Need A Chuckle

As I write this today, I’m feeling a bit scattered, so I thought it might be fun to jot down some of the everyday musings inside my head. Following are some random thoughts in case you need a chuckle.

The Christmas commercials are out already, and we haven’t had our turkey yet. I am feeling old. I remember my mom complaining about this when I was younger. Have you morphed into your mother yet?

It’s inevitable, you know, we ladies all turn into our mothers at some point. Remember when you were a teenager and swore you would never act like “that” when you got older?

I am happy to report that I do not and will not EVER wear a shift. That is where I draw the line! Do you know what a shift dress is? My mom put one on every day. Not my fashion jam, thank goodness.

I am not planning on going to the hairdresser to get my hair teased up once a week, either. However, I cannot promise that I won’t take up posing on motorcycles with my children.

Teenagers Have Their Own Language

Speaking of feeling old, does your teenager speak multiple languages? They talk our English plus their made-up English. I refer to this as their duplicitous English since every word takes on a different meaning.

For example, “salty” is not just how your pretzels taste. In teen-speak, it means angry, upset, or bitter. “I’m dead” means you are laughing so hard you are dying.

Some of the definitions are very surprising; however, it’s probably best to be informed.

Ever notice how seagulls like to stand on top of poles? What do you think that is all about? They never lay down; they just stand there looking very proud. It must be their equivalent of playing “King of the Hill.” I’m guessing the view is spectacular.

Did you get a lot of trick-or-treaters this year? We did! I was happy to see all the kids in their costumes but bummed that we didn’t have much left-over candy. We ended the night with four pieces of candy in the bowl. That is just not right.

My husband bought the Halloween candy this year. Note to self, don’t let him be in charge of candy purchase next year! Since our kids are grown and no longer have candy bags to pick through, we just need to buy extra. Do you?

Random Thoughts on the 1960s

Our HGTV magazine arrived this past week. I love skimming through that magazine. I also love watching the HGTV channel. Although we have been in this house for over two years, we are still in home decor upgrade mode. I typically get a lot of ideas from HGTV.

I was shocked to see that the styles they are promoting now are pretty much 1960’s furniture and decor. Ugh! I didn’t like it growing up, and I certainly don’t like it any better now. I haven’t seen the HGTV shows promoting that style yet, but I am afraid that is coming next.

If the leisure suit returns during my lifetime, I will have to live off the grid! Does anybody else feel me?

I Love Speaking to Strangers

Do you speak to strangers? Have you ever had a full-on conversation with someone on a checkout line at a grocery store? I can talk with anyone and enjoy it! People are so interesting.

It is fascinating to me how different yet similar we all are. Have you ever spoken with someone so easy to talk with that you felt as if you knew them your whole life? Like, you had an instant kinship? And then you walk away and never see them again. It’s so weird; why do we do that?

Do you shop at Aldi? I love that place. I paid a whopping $.85 for a dozen eggs today. You really can’t beat it! There’s a particular phenomenon that goes on there that I am trying to understand. People make one checkout line even if there are three cashiers open. Why?

There are signs that request you do not do this, yet, people still do. Today, I tried explaining to a woman that there were two lines because two cashiers were open, and she stared at me with this look of disgust. We didn’t share an immediate kinship, and I had no issue walking away from her, just saying.

Are You Preparing for the Holidays?

Have you put together your holiday calendar yet? I am fine-tuning mine this week. As I have written before, I create a calendar to keep my anxiety in check. There is always so much to do to prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Creating tasks nicely spaced out on a calendar truly helps me.

At the risk of sounding nosey, how do you keep your holiday anxiety at bay? If you have any tricks to share, I would love to hear about them. The clock is already ticking, so please let me know soon!

Have you noticed any shortage of groceries on the shelves these days? The News programs keep reporting that shipping containers stuck in ports will result in costly goods this holiday season. Are you worried about that? Have you started your Christmas shopping early because of this?

Isn’t this our chance to support local businesses? That’s what I am planning on doing; feel free to join me!

Fall Perk for Dog Owners

It’s starting to get chilly in the evenings now on the East Coast. I just love the change of seasons! Especially since I have a dog. Any dog lovers out there?

We have a fenced-in yard that Tucker uses to “do his business” in at night. I somehow have inherited the chore of keeping the yard clean which is easy-peasy in the colder weather. It’s like picking up icicles!

Why do you think it is that Moms always take on these types of assignments? I know why I do. I would rather pick up frozen poop than deal with a cave cricket or spider in the house. I view it as staying in my lane. Agree?

Well, this has been fun. It’s not often I get to do a brain dump. I hope you enjoyed a chuckle or two from my random musings. It will be interesting to see how many people read this post. Who knows, maybe I’ll put it in my writing rotation and do one every six weeks. What do you think?

As usual, please leave me a comment below if something I’ve said resonates with you.
