Are you happy to Bid Goodbye to 2022?

Another year is almost “in the books,” and we will be ushering in 2023 soon. Are you happy to bid goodbye to 2022?

From a health standpoint, 2022 was a very challenging year for me. So, I am relieved to say so long to this year. I am ready to move forward and plan for a healthy 2023!

I took the time to review my post from January 2022, which reflected on the prior year (2021). It included three things I wanted to work on in 2022 – Closet Organization, Meditation, and Procrastination. You can find the post here: https://www.outwittinglife.com/is-moving-to-2022-feeling-like-a-non-event-to-you/.

Admittedly, my closet is a hot mess right now. However, that is because it is where I have been hiding all my Christmas purchases. I did an excellent job of purging (donating) clothes. And I figured out a way to tidy up all my shoes. My closet is pretty organized, so mission accomplished.

Conversely, I did so-so with meditating. I tried transcendental meditation early in the year. But I never quite got into a rhythm. I participated in a couple of virtual moon circles this past quarter and found them fascinating. While I have dabbled in visualization meditation on and off, I still have not settled on a consistent meditation method. I will continue to explore meditation in 2023.

Are You Happy With How 2022 Ended?

Procrastination is the area I spent managing the most in 2022. It is hard! I became better at it; however, I still have a long way to go. Are you a procrastinator? I am the person that saves a gift card because I think there’ll be a better time to use it. Why can I not allow myself instant gratification? I believe this is an excellent topic for my next therapy appointment!

One of the meditation classes I took this year spoke about leaving your bad experiences behind. Dragging them with you into a new year is exhausting. That makes sense to me. It was suggested I write down any “baggage” I carried through 2022 that I would like to dump.

Goodbye to 2022

I have mentioned that I am a prominent list writer, so this appealed to me. After completing the list, it was suggested that I write each individual item on a sticky note and then burn them. That is precisely what I did. And I immediately felt lighter. Of course, I had to have some fun with this, so while the notes were shrinking and burning away, I said goodbye to them. Here are all the different words I used:

  • Goodbye 2022
  • See ya
  • Later
  • Ta-ta
  • Take care
  • Adios
  • Toodles
  • Farewell
  • Peace
  • Cheerio
  • Have to go, bro
  • So long

It was fun and cathartic, and I highly recommend it. You should try it and create your ritual. Perhaps you can rip each note to shreds or place the notes on the floor and stomp on them. Whatever floats your boat!

Know Your Intentions

Goals vs. Intentions

I saw a blurb recently on Instagram that discussed the difference between a goal and an intention. It was intriguing. If you combine your goal with an intention, you can still feel good even if you do not technically achieve your goal. This article gives a solid explanation of the differences: https://theempowermentdynamic.com/3-differences-between-goals-and-intentions-2/.

One of the great things I enjoy about the internet is that it provides perspective and different opinions. Setting goals aim to achieve success, which ultimately results in feeling good about yourself. Do you use the internet for goal-setting ideas to try?

Following is an example. If my goal is to learn to water ski, my intention could be to feel what it is like to be on the water on a sunny day, away from the shoreline, and feel the wind on my face if the water is too choppy to learn to water ski, no problem. You can still take a boat ride that takes you away from the shoreline on a beautiful, sunny day and feel the wind on your face, which is still an accomplishment!

Goals and Intentions for 2023

Have you thought about what you would like to accomplish this coming year? I have been reflecting on this all week. What do I want, and what do I want to change? This complex and vast world offers so many opportunities it is hard to choose. I have decided I will get through Christmas and spend some time next week exploring my options.

If you have a few minutes, could you think about what you would like to see from me next year? Are you interested in specific topics? Would you like to see more about how to remain positive articles, recipes, or home decor? Furthermore, how about breast cancer? Is that what appealed to you when you signed up? Moreover, is there anything else you would like me to address?

It would be terrific if you could let me know your preference in a comment below. I want to ensure I provide everyone with what they want/need.

Happy holidays to you and your family! Thank you very much for taking the time to read my blog. It means the world to me. God bless.
